Report: Levy to slap £40 million price tag on Tottenham defender Alderweireld
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy will demand £40 million for Toby Alderweireld once his current release clause expires, .
At the moment the Belgian defender is vulnerable to being poached for just £25 million, but that clause will no longer be active after Friday.
Spurs opted to extend the defender’s contract back in December, meaning he would be contracted until the summer of 2020 – but teams would have a window of opportunity to snap him up for a knockdown fee.
It looks as though the club are going to make it past Thursday unscathed, with no teams genuinely interested in the former Southampton man.
AS Roma are keen () but it’s thought they cannot afford his release clause.

Barring anything crazy, it looks as though Spurs will be keeping hold of their best defender for at least the start of 2019/20.
Levy slapping a £40 million price tag on the 30-year-old will surely serve as a strong deterrent, with clubs knowing he was just available for £25 million and they could have moved then.
Realistically there are few better players in his position in Europe, and Spurs may be hoping to make use of the £80,0000-a-week star () – who is in his prime – for one more season before taking a financial hit next year.
