Arsenal looked like they were the favourites to sign Raphinha from Leeds United this summer, but Chelsea are now said to be leading the race for his signature.

The Brazilian is a wanted man in this transfer window. Barcelona, Tottenham, Newcastle United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been linked with a move for him, but only two clubs have tabled bids so far.

Arsenal have reportedly made two bids for Raphinha, both of which were rejected. Chelsea, on the other hand, have an agreement with Leeds for a fee between £60 million and £65 million including add-ons, but they are yet to convince the player. ()

It’s tense times for both Arsenal and Chelsea, and if a report from Brazil is to be believed, Leeds want to make things more interesting now.

Leeds are waiting for Arsenal to bid for Raphinha

backs reports from elsewhere that have claimed that Chelsea have agreed a deal with Leeds to sign Raphinha for an initial fee of £55 million. However, the Whites are hoping for more.

It has been claimed that Leeds are now waiting for Arsenal to come back in with a bid that would trump Chelsea’s offer.

Jesse Marsch’s side are hoping to create a bidding war between the two London sides, and the report claims that Leeds’ intention is to accept the highest offer.

Raphinha’s dream is still to join Barcelona this summer, but, at the moment, it’s extremely unlikely that the Catalans can match Chelsea’s bid for the Brazilian.

Chelsea and Arsenal will hate Leeds’ reported plan, but the Whites are playing this perfectly.

Marsch and co know for a fact that Raphinha wants to leave Leeds this summer, and there’s no point wasting their time trying to make him stay. The important thing now is to get as much money as they possibly can for their star Brazilian, and it looks like that’s exactly what they’re doing.

As things stand, Chelsea look like they’re the favourites to sign Raphinha this summer. However, Arsenal have been really keen for a while now, and David Ornstein even revealed last week that the winger is open to a move to the Emirates.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the coming weeks, but one thing’s certain – whoever gets Raphinha will become considerably stronger next season.
