Report: Leeds want Nottingham Forest defender Yohan Benalouane

that both Leeds United, West Ham United and Cardiff City are interested in signing Nottingham Forest defender Yohan Benalouane in the summer.

The 31-year-old only joined Martin O’Neill’s Forest in January from Leicester City. He signed an 18-month contract at the City Ground, but is already quickly gaining admirers.

Indeed, in his 10 Championship appearances, Benalouane has helped Forest win three matches and keep three clean sheets. He even scored the winner in a 1-0 win over Derby County.

The former Saint-Etienne and Atalanta defender only managed 29 appearances in all competitions for Leicester after joining the club in the summer of 2015. The likes of Wes Morgan kept him out of the side.

TBR’s view

Benalouane is not good enough for West Ham and would be well down the pecking order behind Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Winston Reid. He might find more joy at Cardiff City, following Sol Bamba’s injury.

But perhaps a move to Leeds is best for the five-time Tunisia international. Indeed, Leeds only have two recognised centre-backs at senior level in Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson.

He would act as first reserve to the duo with a strong chance of breaking into the senior side under Marcelo Bielsa.
