Report: Leeds United want young West Ham midfielder Josh Cullen
Leeds United are one of four clubs preparing to do battle for West Ham United midfielder Josh Cullen,
Bournemouth and Norwich City plus West Bromwich Albion are showing interest in the highly-rated Republic of Ireland international.
The 23-year-old has performed admirably out on loan with Charlton Athletic this season, playing 25 games for the Addicks.
Cullen is typically a central midfielder, although he has operated as a No.10 on three occasions during 2019/20.
West Ham have activated a clause in his contract keeping him at the London Stadium until 2021, although a long-term deal has not been forthcoming.
Cullen does have nine appearances for the Hammers under his belt but has spent time on loan with Bradford and Bolton, as well as Charlton this season.
Signing the youngster would perhaps suggest a lot about Leeds’ transfer strategy, even if they were to get promoted.
It could imply that they won’t abandon their principals of playing younger players and Cullen could complement the current crop nicely.
With Bournemouth being an established Premier League club right now they may hold the aces but if the Whites win promotion, they might edge to the front of the queue.
Leeds are currently top of the Championship with nine games left to play.
Winning promotion could be just the start under Marcelo Bielsa and it would be an exciting time to join the club.
Having come through the ranks at West Ham, however, he might still fancy a proper crack at the first-team with them.
If David Moyes can’t promise him game time, however, Leeds look like an ideal destination for the midfielder.
