Report: Leeds told to spend £2million to land English no.10

Leeds United must pay a bargain £2million to land Portsmouth number 10 Jamal Lowe this summer, but they face competition from two Championship sides.

Recently-relegated Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic are also interested in 24-year-old Lowe, after he netted 17 times this season. He also proved somewhat creative, laying on nine assists in his 55 appearances.

Lowe’s excellent form was crucial in pushing Pompey into fourth place and into the League One play-offs, but they suffered a 1-0 aggregate defeat to Sunderland and will now remain in the third tier.

But Lowe himself may still engineer a move to the Championship, as his current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2020. It could be Portsmouth’s best chance to bring in some cash for Lowe.

Sky reckon a bid of £2million will be enough for Leeds, Wigan or Cardiff to land the rapid winger, who now has 119 appearances under his belt in all competitions for Portsmouth.

TBR’s view

£2million for Lowe is a bargain. Kemar Roofe was bought from League Two Oxford United back in the summer of 2016, and he has since gone on to shine for Leeds – scoring 15 league goals this season.

Lowe can mirror Roofe’s rise. Still only 24 years of age, the winger has got plenty of time to make it big and at Leeds, he can certainly do that. As a replacement for Jack Harrison, Lowe would be a good signing.
