In addition, the former Manchester United ace is apparently prepared to make the move to Elland Road in this window.
Another report from Spain has pointed to an increased possibility of Mata to Leeds happening over the coming weeks.
– via – touched upon the speculation regarding talks and the player ‘studying’ the Whites’ offer.
The Spanish outlet has also claimed that Mata has made it clear to the Whites – and other suitors – that he is ‘willing to reduce’ the wages he was earning at Manchester United.
Mata’s priority is to continue playing in a competitive league, as he believes he can still be effective at the highest level, added the report.
The 34-year-old has also been linked with Real Betis, but they have made it clear they can’t do a deal at this moment in time.
As a result, the opportunity is there for Orta and Jesse Marsch to get their man. And Mata is apparently ‘waiting to see what happens with Leeds’.
“He’s top isn’t he?”
What a coup this would be for Leeds – Mata is an incredibly talented, experienced and hard-working player.
The former Spain international has enjoyed an incredible career, and a move to Leeds would be a superb next chapter.
Mata boasts over 600 competitive club appearances at Manchester United, Chelsea and Valencia.
He has from his time in English football so far, including the 2012 Champions League with the Blues.

Mata also has 41 Spain caps, and won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2020 with La Roja.
“What a player,” Scott McTominay told the about Mata in October 2020.
“He’s top isn’t he? You don’t have to say much more about Juan. On and off the pitch, he’s class.
“The way he dresses is class, the way he speaks to people is class.
“For every young footballer who is aspiring to be a top, top player, then just watch Juan Mata.
“He 100 per cent knows what it takes to win trophies.
“He’s a winner and he’s adopting that mentality for us.
“And he has high, high levels of expectation for all the players around him to reach his standards.
“You can see that whenever he performs like he does.”
