But there is serious doubt over whether he will stay beyond the coming days. The Athletic reports that he is no closer to signing a new contract with the Irons. There have been disagreements over his wage demands.

Reports previously claimed that Leeds were keen on the 18-year-old forward. that the Whites remain in the mix for his signature, along with Aston Villa.

Perkins no closer to signing new West Ham contract

It would be a blow for West Ham to lose Perkins. He scored 10 goals in 20 games in Premier League 2 last season. And he featured in David Moyes’ side on a handful of occasions.

Mark Noble also once labelled him ‘‘.

But clearly, time is running out. You would imagine that West Ham would have made the acceptable offer by now if they were prepared to meet his demands.

He is attracting interest from rival Premier League clubs. And both Leeds and Aston Villa have a good track record of bringing young players through in the last few years.

They may have perhaps also made it clear to the teenager that they are prepared to pay the wages he is looking for at West Ham.

None of the clubs will need to wait too long for an update. Obviously, his contract with the Hammers is close to expiring. And it seems likely that he will immediately have opportunities should he become a free agent next month.
