Report: Leeds rivalling AS Roma for 19-year-old wonderkid Justin Lonwijk
that Leeds United are rivalling Italian giants AS Roma and German side Eintracht Frankfurt for PSV Eindhoven wonderkid Justin Lonwijk.
Just 19 years of age and born in December 1999, Lonwijk is already featuring for PSV’s Under-21 side. He is renowned as an attacking midfielder, but has been known to play at the base of the midfield and even out wide.
He has featured for PSV’s Jong side 24 times already, scoring six goals. He was given the promotion into the second string – who play in the second tier of Dutch football – after 20 goals in 50 games from midfield for the Under-19’s.
However, PSV are yet to agree a new deal with their most-prized asset. His current deal expires at the end of the season, and although PSV are keen to keep him at the club, it remains to be seen if interest will turn his head.

Indeed, Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds are interested, while Roma are in the ‘initial phase’ of signing Lonwijk. He has nine caps for the Netherlands Under-19 side, and is certainly an up-and-coming star.
TBR’s view
To be linked with a player of Lonwijk’s potential alongside a very strong German side in Frankfurt, and last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Roma shows just how far Leeds have come under Bielsa.
Leeds have had huge success in luring young players to the club’s Under-23 side. The likes of Leif Davis, Pascal Struijk, Aapo Halme, Kun Temenuzhkov and more are all shining in the second string, after joining the club.
So, Leeds have history with signing young talent. Lonwijk, though, may have larger ambitions.
