Report: Leeds ready to pay £20m before deadline

Leeds are ready to pay as much as £20million to sign Dan James from Manchester United permanently, before Tuesday’s deadline.

James, 23, is well liked by Marcelo Bielsa – with the Argentine gaffer having been linked with the Euro 2020 Wales star in the recent past.

Leeds fans will recollect the Amazon Prime documentary in which James poses with the no.21 shirt. He is waiting to join, having passed a medical.

Having failed to get him in January 2019, Bielsa’s interest has not waived. He remains keen – reports say Leeds want him before Tuesday’s deadline.

The report states that Leeds want a deal in the next 36 hours – whether that is on loan, or a permanent move. Manchester United rate him at £20million.

James to Leeds: Is he worth £20m?

He could be. Right now, he is struggling for momentum and confidence. He needs to join a side where he is first choice and can make a difference.

With United signing Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, he is not really going to do that at Old Trafford. So, James needs to make a move.

A loan might be better for James. It might just allow him to regain his best confidence and return to United a better player, boosting his game time.

But if he is going to be a permanent signing, is he worth as much as £20million to Leeds? He probably would not start at Elland Road.

Raphinha and Jack Harrison are so crucial to Leeds in the way they play, that James would struggle to get in. One to keep an eye on.
