Report: Leeds now want 22-year-old being scouted by PL trio – but Whites may have advantage

Leeds United are interested in signing Middlesbrough midfielder Marcus Tavernier with Victor Orta well aware of the 22-year-old from his time at the Riverside Stadium, .

Tavernier is attracting a lot of Premier League attention. He has made 122 appearances for Boro in all competitions since breaking into the first-team.

TEAMtalk reports that the likes of Southampton, Brighton and Burnley have their eye on Tavernier.

But it is claimed that Leeds have now entered the running. Orta knows Tavernier from his time as Boro’s director of football. So they may be hoping that that hands them an advantage in any race.

that Tavernier is out of contract at the end of next season. So Middlesbrough may certainly feel that they are heading into a crucial period over his future.

Could Tavernier prove a potential successor for Stuart Dallas at Leeds?

It is not entirely difficult to understand why Leeds may have their eye on Tavernier. Admittedly, he only has one goal and one assist in the Championship so far this season.

But he is someone who has played all over the pitch, including central midfield and out on both wings.

When you consider that he has also filled in at full-back in the past, it is perhaps fair to suggest that Leeds could be weighing up whether he could eventually replace someone like Stuart Dallas in the squad.

Dallas has been the ultimate utility player for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Last season, he was probably Leeds’ best player at both left-back and in central midfield. And he featured in several other roles.

He is a huge player for the Whites. And replacing him is going to be an incredibly difficult task in the years to come.

Leeds would surely be wise to look at all players who have the ability to go almost anywhere on the pitch.
