Report: Leeds left baffled by Arsenal bid for Raphinha

Leeds United were left somewhat baffled by the initial bid Arsenal made for Raphinha, that it was immediately rejected by the Whites.

The fight for Raphinha’s signature appears to be ramping up after months of speculation. Perhaps surprisingly, it is the Gunners who appear to have made the opening offer.

Reports on Tuesday claimed that Arsenal had bid for Raphinha. However, the offer fell well short of Leeds’ asking price for the 25-year-old. Reports have suggested that Jesse Marsch’s men want £56 million for the winger.

Arsenal probably would not have been surprised when the offer was rejected. But it does seem that Leeds were taken aback by what the Gunners put on the table.

that Leeds were left baffled by the bid. It is noted that the Whites feel that they have a good relationship with the Gunners.

Leeds baffled by Arsenal bid for Raphinha

It does seem to be common for clubs to make lower offers initially to register their interest. Arsenal, by the sounds of it, would have been stunned had Leeds accepted their bid.

Perhaps they have tried to rock the boat. Raphinha is yet to publicly state that he wants to leave Elland Road. And Arsenal may have wondered whether that was down to no bids coming in.

Had Raphinha reacted badly to Leeds rejecting the offer, perhaps that would increase the likelihood of the Whites lowering their demands further down the line.

Obviously, Raphinha will have his feelings behind the scenes. But Arsenal must also be wary of the bid backfiring.

Raphinha is wanted by several clubs. So he may not be best pleased by the Gunners making their move by offering a much lower price.

And clearly, Leeds have not been overly impressed by what Arsenal have done.
