Report: Leeds keeping an eye on Cornet as West Ham talks continue

Leeds United are one of the sides keeping an eye on Maxwel Cornet, but may have to act quickly, with reporting that West Ham are hopeful of striking a deal for the Burnley forward.

Perhaps surprisingly, Cornet remains at Turf Moor this summer. That is despite the Ivorian enjoying a really impressive first year with the Clarets.

And with Burnley ultimately getting relegated, Cornet is available for just £17.5 million due to a release clause in his contract.

But there is certainly interest. In fact, it seems that West Ham are in talks to sign Cornet. that they are hopeful of a deal being agreed – despite seeing a loan offer rejected.

Should the Hammers miss out, a number of teams will be waiting in the wings. And one of those, according to 90min, is Leeds.

Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Everton meanwhile, have all held talks with Cornet also.

Leeds keeping an eye on Cornet

Cornet is no stranger to Leeds’ radar. Reports ahead of his move to Burnley claimed that the Whites made a £10 million bid for the 25-year-old.

Ultimately, Leeds would miss out. But perhaps they could now look to land him at the second attempt.

Cornet would arguably be a very decent signing for Leeds. He scored nine times in the Premier League last year. And one of those came when he scored a stunning free-kick at Elland Road.

Without Cornet, Burnley would have likely been relegated much sooner than the final day of the season. And he is someone who can play up front, out on the wing, or even at left-back.

It does appear that Leeds are well down the list in the battle for Cornet right now. But he is a ‘‘ player. And his arrival would excite plenty of supporters.
