Report: Leeds eye £7m gem after Bielsa’s two-year admiration, club eager to block exit
Leeds United are keeping close tabs on Blackburn Rovers forward and Marcelo Bielsa target Ben Brereton, according to .
Bielsa has admired the Stoke-born Chile international for the past two years after facing Brereton in the Championship. Leeds could now look to build on his interest as the Whites boss eyes reinforcements on the wings.
But United are not alone in admiring Brereton with clubs across Europe paying attention to his situation at Blackburn. The 22-year-old is entering the last year of his contract at Ewood Park and has shone on the international stage.

Martin Lasarte awarded Brereton his against Argentina in the Copa America earlier this month. The forward then hit his first goal against Bolivia and offered an assist to hold Uruguay to 1-1 draw.
Chile have now secured their place in the quarter-finals and further strong showings could help Brereton secure a transfer. But Blackburn are in talks with the attacker’s representatives over extending his contract at the club.
Rovers are eager to tie Brereton down to a long-term deal, per , as they fear their £7m signing’s value plunging. The Nottingham Forest product is also one of several players entering the last year of their deals at Ewood Park.
TBR’s view: Leeds should sign Blackburn star Brereton
Blackburn want to block Brereton from leaving by renewing his contract, but Leeds should test their resolve given Bielsa has long admired his ability. The forward entering the final 12-months of his contract could also help the Whites in their bid to strike a deal.
Redgol also note Leeds and Blackburn share a good relationship, which would strengthen the chances of Victor Orta edging any rival interest. And rival bids are likely, given how the former England U20 international has fared for Chile.
Brereton also performed strongly for Blackburn in the Championship last term, netting and five assists. He started 30 of 40 appearances, as well, with Tony Mowbray awarding minutes on either wing and at striker.
His versatility and end product would be welcomed at Elland Road under Bielsa if Leeds sign Brereton. Much will depend on the talks Blackburn have held with his agent, but the chance to play in the Premier League may prove unbeatable.
