Report: Leeds, Everton, Wolves and Leicester monitoring Middlesbrough’s Tavernier

that Leeds United, Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City are all keeping tabs on Middlesbrough midfielder Marcus Tavernier this month – but Boro have no intentions of letting him go.

Tavernier, 21, has already clocked up 100 appearances for Middlesbrough in all competitions despite his tender age – scoring 12 goals and laying on the same amount in assists. He has 15 caps for England’s Under-20 side.

The midfielder has featured in all 25 league and cup matches for Boro this season, having a hand in six goals despite being used on the left, right and even in the middle of the park. Emerging as a 10 of late, Premier League clubs are taking note.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are keen on Tavernier, who was born in Leeds as was older brother and Rangers captain James Tavernier. Everton, Wolves and Leicester are also interested but Boro are keen to keep him as they push for promotion.

TBR’s view – Which clubs suits Tavernier best?

Everton have a flock of attacking midfielders. James Rodriguez, Bernard, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Alex Iwobi and more. He is easily good enough for Everton, but the quantity of players in that area at Everton would stunt his growth.

A similar story at Leicester – James Maddison, Dennis Praet, Youri Tielemans, Ayoze Perez are just a number of names on that list. Wolves have options, but they lack the depth of Everton and Leicester.

But clearly, a return to his home town would be ideal. Leeds have a faith in youth, lack cover in that area and Bielsa likes players who are versatile. Tavernier is represented by the same agent as Ross McCormack ().
