Report: Leeds and West Ham battling Brentford for Peru international
that Leeds United are rivalling West Ham United and Thomas Frank’s Brentford to sign Peru midfielder Pedro Aquino. All three are expected to make their moves in the January window.
Aquino, 24, has impressed at Mexican side Club America since joining for £3million () from Liga MX rivals Leon. He has also played for Monterrey in Mexico, having started his career Peruvian side Sporting Cristal.
Now, a move to Europe looks on the cards – especially to England. Having helped Club America sit top of the Mexican table at this halfway point, he might not be around to see out the 2021-22 campaign. They are six points clear.
That is because Leeds, West Ham and Brentford all want to sign the player, who boasts 34 caps for his country. He featured in all three of Peru’s games at the 2018 World Cup, against Denmark, France and Australia.

Aquino on the move: Leeds, West Ham or Brentford?
Leeds need reinforcements all over the pitch. A recent hamstring injury suffered by Kalvin Phillips could see Leeds dip into the midfield market, especially having tried to sign a midfielder in the summer – Lewis O’Brien, namely.
Aquino might be perfect under Marcelo Bielsa. At Brentford, he would certainly be strong competition for the likes of Christian Norgaard. But a move he should probably avoid is West Ham, where he would be warming the bench.
