Report: Leeds and Sheffield United in race for Championship assist machine
that Sheffield United have joined Leeds United in the race to sign Reading assist machine John Swift this summer, with the Blades said to have tabled an offer.
Swift, 25, is one of the best English midfielders in the Championship and is renowned for his ability to score goals from outside of the penalty area. His goals and assists have kept Reading out of a relegation scrap.
Indeed, the Chelsea academy product has had a hand in 15 goals from the middle of the park this season in 35 Championship games. The former England Under-21 cap has netted five goals – but created a whopping 10 assists.
That has seen Sheffield United and Chris Wilder table an offer to sign Swift, while Leeds remain keen – with the Whites likely to gain promotion to the Premier League in the coming weeks.

TBR’s view – Have Leeds finally found Klich’s long-term partner?
Since Marcelo Bielsa took over at Elland Road, Leeds have failed to find a permanent central midfield partner for the Poland international. Tyler Roberts, Adam Forshaw, Jamie Shackleton and others have all tried.
Leeds need a player like Klich who is willing to get forward and can both score and create. Swift, then, is the perfect signing for the Whites – even if he costs more than £5million.
