Report: Leeds and Brighton in talks to sign Stuttgart striker Nicolas Gonzalez

that both Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion have entered talks to sign Stuttgart striker Nicolas Gonzalez – with discussions ongoing between the two sides for defender Ben White, too.

Gonzalez, 23, was in inspired form for Stuttgart last season as the three-time Argentina international fired his side to promotion back into the top tier of German football. Gonzalez netted 15 goals in 29 games, creating four more.

That has not gone unnoticed, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs being linked – including Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan. But the latest report claims Leeds and Brighton are in talks for the South American star.

It is believed £15million will be enough to sway Stuttgart into letting their most-prized asset depart, despite the attacker having a contract until 2023. The report also claims that Gonzalez is keen on a move to the Premier League.

TBR’s view – Gonzalez could be a bargain at just £15m

But it must be remembered that while he had an excellent campaign for Stuttgart, it was in the second tier of German football. Yes he scored 15 goals, but he previously managed just two in 30 in the Bundesliga.

It must be said that Gonzalez was used out wide in those 30 previous top-tier matches. That is likely to attract both Leeds and Brighton, who are both very similar in terms of style. Versatility is key, and Gonzalez could be a bargain.
