Report: £75k-a-week Arsenal star has new admirers; first contact already made

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira could find himself a new home in Rome this summer, with Lazio the latest club to be interested in his services.

The Uruguayan midfielder spent last season out on loan with Atletico Madrid. However, a move back to Spain is in limbo, with Torreira attracting attention from a number of others.

And one of those clubs is Lazio, . They claim that ‘first contact’ has already been made between the clubs.

It is believed new boss Maurizio Sarri is keen on bringing Torreira in to strengthen the middle of the park. Despite his struggles with Arsenal, the 25-year-old Torreira has actually got 29 caps for his country and is a regular.

According to , he is currently contract with Arsenal until the end of the 2023 season. That contract is said to earn him around £75k-a-week, money that Arsenal could well use elsewhere.

It was claimed a few weeks back that Fiorentina wanted Torreira. However, with Gennaro Gattuso having already left, that move is on hold.

Torreira made 26 appearances for Atletico last season. Despite not always being first choice, he played a key role in helping Los Rojos Blancos to the La Liga title.

Arsenal have to sell Torreira this summer and Lazio might be ideal

Both Arsenal and Torreira need to come to an agreement this summer. There’s no point in sorting another loan move. It needs to be permanent, or nothing.

A move to Lazio would fit well for the combative star. Mauro Sarri is a good manager, and there’s every chance the Rome club do well next year.

For Arsenal, it’s a case of getting his wages off the books. £75k-a-week is a lot of cash. And with the club rebuilding, they need all the help they can get.

Hopefully, this summer might finally see the end of the constant rumours around Torreira.
