Report: Lazio ‘spoke recently’ with Southampton star, keen on signing £7.5m-rated man
Serie A side Lazio are keen on raiding Southampton and re-signing defender Wesley Hoedt this summer, with the Saints requesting a bargain fee of just £7.5million.
Hoedt, 26, has endured a dismal run in the Southampton side since his big-money move from Lazio in the summer of 2017. Hoedt managed 45 appearances in his first 18 months, but joined Celta Vigo on loan in January 2019.
He then played for Club Brugge on loan last season and having entered the final two years of his Southampton contract, he is on the transfer list. Hoedt has a strong relationship with the Lazio management, and ‘spoke recently’ with the Serie A side.
Simone Inzaghi wants Hoedt back, who played 61 times for the Italians between 2015 and 2017. It is believed Southampton are keen to let him go and rate him in the region of £7.5million, but will accept a loan-to-buy deal.

TBR’s view – Selling Hoedt makes sense
Even if he probably deserved more of a chance for Southampton. Unfortunately, he is one of a number of recent examples where incoming signings at Southampton have flopped – along with the likes of Guido Carrillo, Mario Lemina and others.
Getting a decent fee of £7.5million would be decent business for the Saints, even though it is a loss on the fee Southampton paid for his services three years ago. Bringing in some cash would get him off the wage bill, and add to the current transfer budget.
