Report: Lampard joins West Ham and Aston Villa in race for freebie
that Derby County manager Frank Lampard is looking to form a reunion with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, but he may face competition from West Ham United and Aston Villa.
The 33-year-old has played just eight times for Chelsea this season in all competitions, and his £75,000-a-week contract is now set to expire – meaning his seven-year stay at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end.
The Mirror’s report also claims that Southampton, Sheffield United and West Ham are all interested. Villa were also linked with a move in January by , and they could reignite their interest this summer.
But Lampard is now looking to bring Cahill to Pride Park, though a move is likely to determine whether The Rams can gain promotion from the Championship to the Premier League. Likewise, for Villa.

Both Villa and Derby go head to head in the play-off final on May 27, and it could well be that the winner of the match also lands Cahill on a free this summer.
TBR’s view
Cahill would be a good signing for any Premier League side outside of the top six, and would even be a decent acquisition for Arsenal or Manchester United – given their struggles at centre-back.
So, a move to the likes of Villa or Derby would be an enormous step in the right direction for either side in the pursuit of safety. West Ham would certainly take Cahill too, with Winston Reid still in the physio room.
West Ham have an advantage in terms of finances, but whether he would start week-in, week-out remains to be seen. He needs to be a regular fixture of a side, and at Villa and Derby he would certainly be that.
