Jurgen Klopp believes that Harvey Elliott is ready to step up and take a first-team place at Liverpool if Xherdan Shaqiri leaves, .

Stepping up

Elliott was loaned out by Liverpool to Blackburn Rovers last term and he impressed in the Championship.

The teenaged winger has now trained with the Reds first-team in Austria over the season.

And it seems that Klopp has faith that Elliott is ready to take a senior role this term.

With Shaqiri set to depart Liverpool there is set to be an opening for a creative winger.

And Elliott actually possesses some relatively similar qualities to Shaqiri.

Replacing Shaqiri

Both are comfortable at taking players on, can thread through passes and while neither are lightening quick, they can accelerate away from their markers.

There is huge excitement around Elliott’s development at Anfield, and there is a feeling that he could become a star of the future.

However, Liverpool supporters are craving signings, who can immediately impact on their first-team.

And there may be questions asked if Shaqiri is sold and no replacement is bought from the market.
