Report: Kilmarnock could sign Kyle Lafferty after Rangers release

that Kilmarnock could be about to sign striker Kyle Lafferty this summer, after the experienced star was released by Rangers earlier this summer.

Lafferty, 31, managed just 30 league and cup appearances for Rangers last season – after rejoining the club six years after his departure following the financial collapse of the club in the summer of 2012.

He found the back of the net just six times, with the signing of Jermain Defoe pushing 70-time Northern Ireland international Lafferty out of the reckoning under Steven Gerrard. Now, Lafferty is a free agent.

The report claims Killie could look to sign the former Norwich striker. Killie manager Angelo Alessio even claimed: “The club is working every day to get new players in. But Lafferty and some players earn a lot of money.”

TBR’s view – Rangers may come to regret Lafferty release

There is no doubt Lafferty had to leave Ibrox. He flew down the pecking order, and the chances of him making eve half of his 30 2018-19 appearances this season would be unlikely.

Yes, he had to leave, but while he was still under contract, Rangers had the pick of clubs he could have joined. If he was still under contract, Rangers could have prevented him from joining a rival such as Kilmarnock.

Instead, it looks as though Lafferty could move to Rugby Park.
