Report: Jurgen Klopp wants to keep Herbie Kane at Liverpool amid loan interest from League One
Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane will remain with the Merseyside club for now. , Jurgen Klopp wants to keep Kane to use him in the EFL Cup.
Kane spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, earning rave reviews. He played 49 times during his spell at The Keepmoat Stadium, scoring seven times and providing 10 assists.
The young midfielder was a crucial part of Grant McCann’s plans as he helped Doncaster reach the play-offs in League One. Unsurprisingly, a host of League One clubs were trying to sign Kane on loan.

Liverpool were initially open to letting the 20-year-old head out on loan again. Coventry City, Portsmouth and Sunderland were three interested parties. And there was speculation about a Doncaster return after he was pictured at their game last weekend.
However, Klopp wants to keep Kane in his squad. The England U19 midfielder played for the U23 team on Monday against Chelsea and he could get a first-team chance in the EFL Cup.
TBR’s view
Kane is a talented young player and his game developed last season during his loan spell with Doncaster. Liverpool should have sent him out to the Championship on loan this summer.
But after the Championship window slammed shut, he can only join teams in League One, Scotland or Europe. Perhaps keeping him for the EFL Cup, developing him in the U23 team and then loaning him out to the Championship in January might be Klopp’s best option.
