Report: Jurgen Klopp desperate for Liverpool to tie down Gini Wijnaldum future
that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is ‘desperate’ to offer Gini Wijnaldum a new contract and end doubts surrounding the Dutchman’s future, given his current deal ends in the summer of 2021.
Wijnaldum, 29, remains an integral part of Klopp’s side and continues to have a knack of scoring in the big matches. The former Newcastle star netted a brace against Barcelona in last season’s Champions League semi-final.
He also scored in the eventual defeat to Atletico Madrid and nabbed one of five in the 5-2 win over Merseyside rivals Everton. He is approaching four years at the club in total since his £25million (), and has played 177 times for The Reds.
However, his £75,000-a-week contract () is due to expire in just over 12 months – with the midfielder turning 30 in November. But the latest report claims Klopp is ‘desperate’ for his side to extend Wijnaldum’s deal.

TBR’s view – Should Liverpool keep Wijnaldum beyond his contract?
Extending his current deal by even 12 months will see Wijnaldum leave Liverpool aged 31, but the midfielder is showing no signs of slowing down. Chipping in with the odd goal but providing an excellent service in midfield, he is an underrated cog.
Wijnaldum has the stamina and physique of a player much younger than he is. Surely, then, keeping him until perhaps the summer of 2022 is a no-brainer – even if his game time starts to slowly reduce? Klopp is right, Wijnaldum deserves a new deal.
