Report: Jurgen Klinsmann wants Tottenham job, if Mauricio Pochettino leaves

that Jurgen Klinsmann wants to take over at Tottenham Hotspur if under-pressure boss Mauricio Pochettino finally leaves the club after five years in the role.

Pochettino is feeling the heat after just two wins in eight league and cup fixtures this season. Spurs suffered the ignominy of losing to Colchester United in the Carabao Cup on penalties earlier this week – a side 70 places below them.

The Argentine boss has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid and was even quoted at FIFA’s The Best awards as saying that he would be open to managing The Galacticos in the future, : “Maybe some year.”

Klinsmann, 55, has plenty of experience in his locker. He has managed Germany, Bayern Munich and most recently, the United States for five years. He has been out of work since 2016, but what may helps his cause is his time at Tottenham as a player.

He played for Spurs during two spells, first joining the club and staying for only the 1994-95 season – in which he scored 29 goals in 50 games. He returned on loan during the 1997-98 campaign, and still netted nine goals in 18 games.

TBR’s view – Is Klinsmann a good option for Spurs?

The German is a talented manager and has plenty of pedigree when it comes to the Champions League. However, he has been out of work since 2016 and with all due respect to the United States National side, they are not Bayern or Germany.

Klinsmann has not been managing at the top level for quite some time, and Spurs need a manager that can hit the ground running – if Pochettino does leave. The one thing that may tempt Daniel Levy on Klinsmann, is his Tottenham past.
