Report: Jose Mourinho wants Marcel Sabitzer, a player he desperately wanted at Tottenham
Since penning a three-year deal at Roma, Jose Mourinho has been linked with numerous Tottenham Hotspur and Premier League players ahead of a summer rebuild – but now he wants a Champions League captain, one he really wanted at Spurs.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura, Eric Dier and Carlos Vinicius have all been linked with Roma since Mourinho was announced as Paulo Fonseca’s replacement – while many other Premier League stars have been targeted.
But now, that Mourinho wants to raid RB Leipzig for their midfield captain Marcel Sabitzer. The 27-year-old skipper was linked heavily with Spurs during Mourinho’s reign, and continues to be a target.
claimed in April that Sabitzer a player that Mourinho had ‘personally earmarked’ and urged his Tottenham superiors to sign. Rated at £45million , Sabitzer is now a target for Mourinho at Roma – with his contract ending in 2022.

TBR’s view – Losing Sabitzer is a blow
But losing him to Mourinho is salt in the wounds, and it would be a sign that Mourinho has exacted revenge on Daniel Levy and the club that decided to sack him just six days before the final he guided them into – eventually losing to Manchester City.
Tottenham need a midfielder to go alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sabitzer would be ideal. He offers a goal threat, he offers work rate, he offers leadership and is probably going to be cheaper this summer – given his contract situation.
Spurs cannot let Mourinho win the race to sign Sabitzer.
