Report: Jose Mourinho offered chance to form reunion with Diego Costa at Tottenham

Tottenham have reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Atletico Madrid attacker Diego Costa.

, Spanish club Atletico have put the 31-year-old up for sale this summer and want to try cash in as he enters the final year of his contract with them.

It is understood that Spurs are in the market to sign a new striker and they have now been offered the chance to sign Costa, who previously worked with manager Jose Mourinho at London rivals Chelsea.

The report explains that Costa would be open to joining Spurs and that he would be a cheaper option than alternative target Callum Wilson from Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Portuguese side Benfica are another club credited with interest in the Atletico frontman.

Costa, who cost Atletico £57million () from Chelsea back in 2017, does appear to have slowed down in the past two years from the player that previously terrorised English football.

The centre-forward has netted just 10 goals combined in the previous two campaigns at Atletico, with injuries and a lack of form really halting his progress.

But the bullish Spain international has a fabulous record of 52 goals in just 89 Premier League appearances and his physical attributes saw him fit perfectly in the division.

TBR’s View:

Mourinho slowly appears to be shaping the squad that he wants at Spurs and Costa could be another part of the puzzle if he decides to take up the opportunity to sign him.

With the north London club on the search for competition for Harry Kane, they couldn’t do much better than bringing in someone with the experience and aggression of ex-Chelsea forward Costa.

He could be a shrewd addition to the group given his winning mentality and warrior attitude, so Spurs should certainly consider him if they can negotiate a reasonable price.
