Report: Jose Mourinho has changed his mind on Spurs player with previously uncertain future
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has changed his mind on Serge Aurier since the start of the season, according to .
The 27-year-old’s future at Spurs looked uncertain in the summer, with reported interest from Italian side AC Milan suggesting he could’ve been on the move.
Aurier ultimately stayed put in North London but, with Matt Doherty joining from Wolves, the Ivory Coast international found himself in and out of the starting XI.

However, Doherty’s need to self-isolate ahead of the Manchester City game meant Aurier was given the nod, and he was one of the standout performers for Spurs in the victory.
The £ full-back was rested against Ludogorets but brought back against Chelsea, helping nullify their threat to help Spurs leave Stamford Bridge with a hard-earned point.
says Mourinho’s coaching, along with Aurier upping his game and delivering great displays, have resulted in the manager now viewing him as a key member of the squad.
This is in constrant to the criticism aimed Aurier’s way last season from some quarters regarding his defensive capabilities, as well as his uncertain future in the summer.
TBR View:
Aurier finished the 2020-21 campaign as the only senior recognised player at right-back, but inconsistency and errors affected some of his displays.
However, a combination of increased competition for places, Mourinho’s coaching and Aurier’s hard work have all culminated in the 27-year-old turning his career at Spurs around.
As declared at the end of their article, having two right-backs both working hard for a spot in the XI is exactly what the manager would’ve wanted.
