Report: Jose Mourinho could offer £40m to sign Allan Saint-Maximin from Newcastle

Italian news outlet has claimed that Jose Mourinho could look to sign Allan Saint-Maximin from Newcastle United.

Mourinho has taken over at Roma and is looking for some new players this summer as he looks to make his mark on proceedings.

Saint-Maximin is seen as one of the more exciting players in the Premier League on his day. Indeed, it is no coincidence that his return to full fitness has coincided with Newcastle pulling themselves well clear of relegation trouble.

But suggest that Mourinho may be ready to test Newcastle’s resolve with a bid in the region of £40m for the winger. The Frenchman signed for Newcastle back in 2019 from Nice and has become a firm favourite among the Toon Army since then.

He struggled with fitness this season after a battle with Covid, but has returned to full swing lately and been instrumental for Steve Bruce.

But only if the sum could be reinvested in the first-team by Steve Bruce. If the money simply goes into the club or Mike Ashley’s pocket, then you’d have to feel for the Magpies manager.

Saint-Maximin won’t stay with Newcastle forever. Without being disrespectful, he’s simply too good and a number of top clubs are likely to be sniffing if there’s an inkling he could be available.

Mourinho is clearly a fan, and he’d no doubt love the speedy winger in Rome if he can get him.
