Report: Jose Mourinho and Napoli join Celtic in £3.5m chase for defender

Celtic are reportedly one of a number of clubs tracking teenage defender Piero Hincapie this summer. The talented teenager played all five games for Ecuador at Copa America over the last few weeks. But a new report claims Celtic have competition for Hincapie, from Jose Mourinho and Napoli.

Hincapie, 19, helped Ecuador reach the quarter-finals of Copa America after Ecuador picked up three points from four group games. The youngster, who plays his club football for Argentine top-tier side CA Talleres, even helped Ecuador draw 1-1 with Brazil. It was Argentina who eventually beat Brazil.

Earlier this month, claimed that Celtic were battling Newcastle in the £3.5million race to sign Hincapie. But now, they are not alone in their pursuit. say Jose Mourinho’s Roma are keen, as are Napoli – as his Copa America exploits begin to attract suitors.

Hincapie would be a brilliant Celtic signing, amid Mourinho competition

If there were any doubts following the initial reports that Hincapie might not be experienced enough for Celtic, then they are over. His form at Copa America, against the likes of Neymar, is enough to prove that he has what it takes to go and become a top European club defender.

At £3.5million, he is a bargain and one Celtic need to wrap up quickly. In fact, it is probably already too late given the interest from Roma and Napoli. Bigger clubs are already swarming and if Celtic did have a chance – it was probably a few weeks back. Interesting to see if a bid is forthcoming.
