New signings coming in in January will certainly hand the squad a lift. And it appears that one of the names on the club’s wishlist is McCarthy.

, Celtic are set to step up their efforts to sign McCarthy next month. And it is claimed that the 30-year-old is keen to move to Parkhead having struggled for game-time this season.

However, Celtic reportedly need to free up funds to sign the Crystal Palace midfielder. Eurosport notes that they could consider letting Olivier Ntcham leave.

TBR View: McCarthy could prove an inspired addition

There is surely no question that Ntcham is one of the most talented players in Lennon’s squad. However, he has not always managed to make the kind of impact that he has the quality to make.

So Celtic arguably have a tricky decision to make should they receive a substantial bid for Ntcham in January.

Signing McCarthy off the back of a potential sale however, would surely soften the blow for any Celtic supporters who want the Frenchman to stay.

McCarthy – who earns £50,000-a-week, – would bring a wealth of experience.

And, as a boyhood Celtic fan, he would surely love nothing more than to help them fight for a historic league title.
