Hause only managed seven Premier League appearances last season, and wasn’t even included in Steven Gerrard’s matchday squad from March onwards.

Villa still planning of let Hause leave

Losing Diego Carlos to a long-term injury is a nightmare for Gerrard’s side, after believing they’d picked up one of the bargains of the summer when they signed him.

, and has already been made vice-captain by Gerrard.

If no new defender is brought in before the transfer window closes, then Gerrard will only have Tyrone Mings, Calum Chambers and Ezri Konsa to call on at centre-back until at least next year.

It’s been a tough start to the season for Mings after losing the captaincy and sitting out the opening game against Bournemouth, but he returned to Gerrard’s starting line-up against Everton.

Letting Hause leave still looks like the right decision for both the player and the club.

The defender is still unlikely to feature even with Diego Carlos’ injury, and would possibly be limiting a young player being exposed to the first-team environment by sitting on the bench.

Hause needs to return to playing regular football, and the competitive environment at Watford, could be the best place to do that.
