Manchester City were prepared to pay a staggering £500,000-a-week to land Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, .

Big money move

Kane made no secret of his desire to join City this summer, but Pep Guardiola’s side never paid enough to convince Tottenham to sell.

Kane announced his intention to stay with Spurs on social media yesterday.

But the move could have been a real money spinner for the England captain.

the striker wants £400,000-a-week to commit to a longer-term deal at Spurs, which would keep him at the club until 2027.

If Kane does pen that contract it could tie him down to Tottenham for the rest of his career, although there is talk that the deal could contain a set release clause.

Kane’s current contract at Spurs still has three years left on it though, which is why City found it so difficult to purchase him this summer.

Tottenham were under no financial pressure to sell and Daniel Levy simply wouldn’t budge.

With Spurs starting the season with two wins and Kane now staying, optimism is starting to build around the North London club again.

And Kane should be action later this evening, when Spurs take on Pacos De Ferreira in the UEFA Conference League.
