Report: Houssem Aouar’s value has dropped drastically after 2020 Arsenal bid
Olympique Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar was on top of Arsenal‘s wish list back in the summer of 2020, but the Frenchman’s transfer value has now plummeted.
When Mikel Arteta decided he wanted Mesut Ozil gone, the Gunners boss was desperate for a new attacking midfielder. Many players were linked with a move to the Emirates, but none more than Aouar.

Houssem Aouar’s value has dropped drastically after 2020 Arsenal bid
Arsenal’s marquee signing in the summer of 2020 was Thomas Partey. The Gunners brought him in by triggering his £45m release clause () on transfer deadline day, and fans absolutely love him.
However, before they signed Partey, Arteta and Edu tried really, really hard to get Aouar.
After having two bids rejected – the second of which was worth £32.6 million () – the Gunners decided to table a £40 million offer to sign the Frenchman. However, Lyon turned that down as well ().
Arsenal went ahead and signed Partey that summer and brought in Martin Odegaard the following window. They’re absolutely delighted with both players now, but Aouar will certainly be regretting his missed opportunity.
The 24-year-old, who’s still at Lyon, is set to leave the club in January. reveal that AC Milan are keen to sign him, and they can apparently snap him up for a very, very small fee.
It has been reported that Lyon are ready to let him go for just £6.9 million – less than a fifth of what Arsenal were ready to pay to sign him just two years ago.

TBR View:
Arsenal fans would’ve loved Aouar back in 2020, but two years on now, they’re not too fussed about missing out.
Arteta signed Odegaard from Real Madrid – initially on loan but that was made permanent six months later. He has been magnificent for them and was even named the club captain at the start of this campaign.
Aouar, branded as an ‘incredible’ player, can still revive his career. A move to a club like Milan could really benefit him, but considering his transfer value is so low now, we won’t be surprised if other sides join the race to sign him.
One club that definitely won’t make a move for him, however, is Arsenal – at least not in the upcoming January transfer window.
