A report from claims that while Aouar remains open to a move to Arsenal, he is also keen to explore other options, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona clubs of interest to him.

The Frenchman was heavily linked with the Gunners in the summer but Mikel Arteta plumped for Thomas Partey instead as he strengthened his midfield ranks.

However, Aouar is still expected to be on the market this summer. claim Lyon are likely to demand around the £53m mark for their creative force, although the pandemic could force that price to dip.

The Gunners remain keen on bringing in a new midfielder to help in the attacking third. Martin Odegaard has been linked this month, while reported interest in the likes of Isco is said to have cooled.

TBR View: Arsenal should still push the boat out, if money allows

Arsenal face a big problem here if Madrid and Barca can sort their own finances out. They’ll simply not be able to compete with the sums the Spanish duo will throw at Lyon and Aouar.

Further, it seems the player isn’t quite as keen on a move to London now as he might once have been. His idea to ‘explore other options’ suggests he is open to going elsewhere and pushing for that to happen.

Arsenal should still go for Aouar if they can, but it will be a harder task from now.
