that Hibernian are set to table a £200,000 offer to sign Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie on a permanent basis – as the Gers academy product struggles to get game time.
McCrorie, 22, last played for Rangers in May 2019 after going on loan to English League One side Portsmouth last season. At both centre-back and in midfield, he is some way down the pecking order under Steven Gerrard.
The signing of Leon Balogun has pushed McCrorie even further down in the centre-back pecking order while in midfield, Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack, Steven Davis, Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo and others are preferred.
It is claimed Gerrard would like to keep McCrorie but is aware he needs game time. A loan could be engineered for McCrorie if the two sides cannot come to an agreement over a permanent fee.
TBR’s view – Surely McCrorie is worth far more than £200,000?
Young, Scottish and with 55 senior appearances for the Rangers first-team, McCrorie has also impressed in England and was a regular for Scotland’s Under-21 side before becoming too old.
So, with all that in mind, £200,000 is surely far below Rangers’ asking price. A loan deal has a much better chance of occurring with Hibs unlikely to be able to afford much more than the six-figure fee.
