Report: ‘Great’ talent misses out on squad for Europa League clash again, Leeds and Newcastle were interested this summer

West Ham United defender Harrison Ashby has once again not been named in the squad for the club’s Europa League clash this evening, after Newcastle United and Leeds United showed interest this summer.

Reports suggested that Leeds were plotting a late swoop for Ashby over the summer as his contract expires next year.

But a move for the 20-year-old didn’t materialise and he has remained at the London Stadium for the time being.

And the Scottish youngster has not been named in a West Ham squad since August 21.

Ashby misses out on Europa League squad

Moyes now has a squad close to being ‘fully-fit’ after Maxwel Cornet and Tomas Soucek returned from injury.

Nayeuf Aguerd and Ben Johnson remain sidelined but Ashby has once again not been named in the Hammers squad.

Football.London journalist Jonty Colman confirmed that the youngster was not in training yesterday ahead of the game.

It’s unclear why Ashby has not been part of West Ham’s team over the past few weeks.

Reports have suggested today that the Hammers are ‘being cautious’ in contract talks with Ashby

The young defender was clearly close to moving away from East London this summer and has not been part of the squad since.

Ashby is a ‘great’ talent and it will be a big blow to West Ham if they do not manage to agree a new deal with the player.

The right-back has put in some promising displays for the Hammers and at just 20, he looks to have a big future ahead of him.
