Report: German star refuses to play for Chelsea, amid Tottenham links

that Antonio Rudiger refused to play for Chelsea on Tuesday night as he looks to engineer a move away from Frank Lampard’s side before the end of the transfer window – with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly keen.

Rudiger, 27, has been a crucial part of the Chelsea side since joining the club in 2017 for £29million () – clocking up 115 appearances in all competitions for the west London side in just three years. However, he has fallen down the pecking order.

Lampard has signed Thiago Silva and seemingly prefers the likes of Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori. Chelsea suffered a Carabao Cup penalty-shootout defeat to Tottenham on Tuesday, and Rudiger seemingly refused to play.

Clubs have less than a week to organise transfers with overseas clubs, but can continue to secure deals with domestic clubs until the 16th. It means Spurs have time to secure Rudiger’s signature, with Spurs want the centre-back.

TBR’s view – Rudiger would be a stunning Spurs signing

Yes, Rudiger has had run-ins with the Spurs fanbase in the past – and was at the centre of an altercation with Son Heung-min last season. But forgetting that, Rudiger would be an excellent addition for Tottenham.

that Chelsea – while they prefer to sell him abroad – want £20million for Rudiger. It makes the German a much cheaper alternative to Milan Skriniar, and gives Spurs a player with Premier League experience. A no-brainer.
