Torreira meanwhile, is currently set to return to Arsenal after a loan spell at Atletico Madrid.

It proved to be a turbulent time in the Spanish capital for Torreira. He sadly lost his mother during the season. And on the pitch, he struggled for regular game-time with Atleti.

He only started three times in the league. He made a further 16 appearances from the bench.

But he did end the campaign with a league title to his name as Atletico won La Liga.

And it appears that a return to Serie A could now be on the cards for the former Sampdoria man.

Arsenal may welcome Gattuso interest in Torreira

The midfielder struggled for game-time under Mikel Arteta. And his time away has hardly seen the 25-year-old prove a point to the Spaniard.

The Gunners will be looking to boost their transfer kitty by selling some of those on the fringes of the squad. Many of those out on loan seem obvious contenders for potential sales.

But being able to encourage a bidding war should increase the likelihood of getting the best fee for the midfielder.

It is a huge disappointment that his time at Arsenal has simply not worked out. There were times when he looked to be a huge talent following his .

However, it now seems that a permanent move would be best for all parties.

The uncertainty is doing neither Arsenal or Torreira any favours.
