Report: Galatasaray join West Ham in race for English defender
that Galatasaray have shortlisted Chelsea defender and reported West Ham target Gary Cahill alongside Bayern Munich wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
All three players are set to leave their current clubs at the end of their contracts, which expire this summer. Cahill, 33, has managed just eight appearances in all competitions this season.
The Mirror claimed last month that West Ham were interested in landing the former Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers defender, who has clocked up an enormous 290 appearances for Chelsea.
, and if he is looking for similar wages then a move to Galatasaray may be difficult to manoeuvre. But West Ham can afford such wages.

It remains to be seen if Cahill wants to try something new and move abroad, or remain in England. West Ham could hold an advantage, as they would allow the defender to remain in London.
TBR’s view
Cahill would be an excellent signing for West Ham, despite the Hammers boasting plenty of options at centre-back in the form of Angelo Ogbonna, Winston Reid, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena.
However, having a man of Cahill’s quality and experience would eclipse them all. There is still a good couple of years left in Cahill’s career at the top level.
On a free transfer, he would be an excellent addition. But with Galatasaray set to qualify for the Champions League as they sit top of the SuperLig, European football could swing Cahill towards Turkey.
