Report: Fourth-placed side join Newcastle in race to sign Everton player, eye loan deal

that Serie A side Napoli want to sign Everton defender Yerry Mina. It comes a few days after Newcastle were linked with a move to sign the Colombia international in January.

Mina, 27, has endured a difficult season so far. Much has been the story of his Everton spell, Mina has spent more time on the sidelines than he has played games in 21-22 – missing nine games due to injury, playing only seven.

In three and a half years, the Colombia international has managed just 84 appearances. It is far from enough for a player Everton spent the best part of £30million to sign, back in the summer of 2018.

Perhaps a fresh start is needed, especially with Mina likely to be behind the likes of Mason Holgate, Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey and even Jarred Branthwaite in the pecking order – after the latter’s goal against Chelsea.

Napoli, who sit fourth in Serie A, have added Mina to their shopping list – after sanctioning the exit of Kostas Manolas to Olympiakos. It is believed Napoli are pursuing a loan-to-buy deal for Mina.

Jeunes Footeux claimed earlier this month that Newcastle are rivalling AC Milan for Mina – and now it appears they may have competition from Napoli. Two of Rafa Benitez’s old sides, fighting for one of his current players.

Napoli or Newcastle: Which is best for Everton defender Mina?

Well, a move to Napoli would certainly be tempting for Mina. It would see him join a side challenging for Champions League qualification – and in the knockout rounds of the Europa League after Christmas.

But the defender needs game time, and assurances. He might not start at Napoli, and a loan might not give him the safety he requires. Newcastle would offer a permanent deal, cash – but the threat of relegation. A tricky decision.
