Report: Five Rangers players considered doubts ahead of Celtic clash

that Steven Gerrard could be without five crucial players for Saturday lunchtime’s Old Firm clash between Celtic and Rangers, including powerhouse striker Alfredo Morelos and veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Saturday’s clash is already being considered a crucial one in Celtic’s pursuit of 10 in a row, and Rangers’ attempts to stop their Glasgow enemies. The Gers sit top, but have played one more match than Celtic – who are just a point behind Gerrard’s men.

The Gers make the short trip to Parkhead for Saturday’s clash but could be without six players – with Nikola Katic a long-term absentee. Borna Barisic, though, is expected to be fit after his Croatia boss confirmed he will play against France on Wednesday.

However, McGregor, Kemar Roofe, Joe Aribo and Filip Helander are all considered doubts – as is Morelos, given that he is not expected to return to Scotland until later this week, after representing Colombia.

TBR’s view – Morelos likely to be risked, if Roofe misses out

It is a conundrum for Gerrard. Cedric Itten is an option, while Jermain Defoe has returned from a hamstring issue. He has options, but obviously he would rather start Morelos – who played 40 minutes against Chile on Tuesday night.

Jon McLaughlin would replace Morelos, while a midfield of Scott Arfield, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara are expected to start in midfield. Leon Balogun lasted 57 minutes of Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Tunisia on Tuesday, and could replace £3.5million () signing Helander.
