that Fenerbahce are in talks with Huddersfield Town over a move for centre-back Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen, amid reported interest from Celtic.
Jorgensen, 29, is likely to leave Huddersfield this summer after the club were relegated from the Premier League. The Denmark international has been linked with multiple sides.
last month that Celtic wanted to sign Zanka, after losing Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic this summer. Neil Lennon has somewhat eased his side’s woes, with Christopher Jullien.
But an experienced centre-back needs to be brought in with Kris Ajer, Jozo Simunovic and Jullien all below 25 years of age. Zanka could be that man, but it seems Fener are in talks and have made an offer of £3.1million.
TBR’s view – Celtic cannot let Fenerbahce win
Zanka is crucial for Celtic. Yes, Lennon has spent big on Jullien who is likely to be a solid signing for the Scottish champions. But the Hoops need some experience at centre-back.
Marvin Compper is hardly filling that void and at just over £3million, Jorgensen is more than affordable. With Fener failing to qualify for European football last season, Celtic may boast the upper hand.
But they must move quickly. it is pivotal Lennon does not let Fener win the race for Jorgensen.
