Report: Fenerbahce eye Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke

Christian Benteke could seal a Crystal Palace exit before Euro 2020 by signings for Turkish giants Fenerbahce,

The 30-year-old will be out of contract during the summer and is unlikely, at this stage, to be offered a new deal by the Eagles.

Fenerbahce are keen to take him this summer on a free transfer and are growing concerned that competition will intensify the nearer it gets to his expiry date.

Benteke signed for Palace from Liverpool in 2016, costing the club He had enjoyed successful spells with the Reds and with Aston Villa but has struggled to scale similar heights at Selhurst Park.

In 142 appearances for the Londoners, he’s scored just 29 goals and claimed 11 assists, with the club seemingly willing to let him leave this summer.

The 39-cap player has started 17 games in the Premier League this season, scoring seven goals.

Inconsistencies have robbed him of a chance to really impress at Selhurst Park, however, and a departure looks best for all parties.

Benteke looks a certainty to be in the Belgium squad for the European Championship in the summer.

Roberto Martinez’s team are in Group B alongside Russia, Denmark and Finland.

Before then, Benteke will hope to get his future sorted and Fenerbahce are leading the chase for the target man.

Palace have struggled at times this season and whoever is in charge next season will hope to see the Eagles push on.

Benteke is among the highest earners at the club on £120,000-a-week and keeping him on such a salary doesn’t make sense.

The Eagles will need to get their transfer business right, however, and use the money saved on Benteke’s departure wisely.
