Report explains why Krzysztof Piatek’s unlikely to join Newcastle

Newcastle United’s hopes of signing AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek appear to have suffered a big setback, that the Poland international is only interested in joining a team in contention for a Champions League place.

The Magpies certainly appear to need greater depth up front. It has been a difficult first season for Joelinton. But his tally of one goal means that he is still the only Newcastle striker to score in the top flight this term.

And it appears that Steve Bruce was hoping to bring Piatek to St James’ Park this month.

that Newcastle are the only club willing to buy the 24-year-old, with the Rossoneri demanding £35 million for his signature.

However, the report suggests that Piatek is now set to stay at San Siro as things stand.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the former Genoa man only wants to join a team battling for a spot in the Champions League.

TBR View – Piatek stance disappointing, but Newcastle can move on

It is not the end of the world for Newcastle if they miss out on Piatek. Bruce’s men have plenty of daylight between themselves and the bottom three.

In fact, they are two points closer to fifth place than 18th.

So while it is disappointing that Piatek is reportedly unlikely to join, Newcastle can certainly bounce back.

It would have arguably been a potential gamble to sign Piatek anyway. He has not exactly been prolific for Milan, so there would have been an element of risk attached to a £35 million move.

But of course, things can quickly change during the January window. So perhaps it would also be foolish to completely write off Newcastle’s hopes of signing the striker before the end of the month.
