Report explains what’s happening with West Ham defender Winston Reid

West Ham United fans have been a little confused as to what is going on with Winston Reid.

The defender missed the whole of the 2018/19 season due to a knee injury which has seen him undergo two surgeries.

Reid returned to the first-team picture in pre-season and featured against Manchester City and Newcastle United in the Asia Trophy, but has not been seen since.

The club have not provided any updates and the player is not an active social media user.

Many have speculated Reid has suffered an injury setback after he was not involved in the club’s opening Premier League game against Manchester City.

, and it turns out Reid is simply being carefully managed.

The fragile 31-year-old has been training and is available to play, but sometimes works away from the first-team to undertake less intense fitness drills.

TBR’s view

Having been out of action for 14 months, it is understandable West Ham are being cautious over the £70,000-a-week star ().

Bringing him back any sooner than he needs to be could consign him right back to the treatment table.

For now the Hammers have some decent options at centre-back such as Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena, with Angelo Ogbonna and young new signing Goncalo Cardoso as cover.
