Report: ‘Exceptionally good’ defender’s hopes of West Brom move scuppered by injury
West Bromwich Albion have been linked with Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho in recent weeks, but a report by claims any hopes of a potential move have been scuppered by an injury to the player.
The same outlet at the end of December that new Baggies boss Sam Allardyce had earmarked the 30-year-old centre-back – who he brought to Selhurst Park from Liverpool in 2017 – as a potential January signing.
Journalist Steve Madeley told the earlier this month that he believed West Brom had made an enquiry about Sakho, though he acknowledged that his salary – a reported – would make the deal “difficult”.
However, the France international picked up a thigh injury in Friday’s FA Cup third-round defeat to Wolves, and according to , he will now be set for a significant spell on the sidelines, which will “almost certainly” scupper any hopes either party had of a January move.
Sakho has made just appearances in all competitions for Palace this season, four of which have been in the Premier League, but his last start in the top flight was back in early October.

Sakho is a player that Allardyce is fond of, having described him as “exceptionally good” back when the two were both at Palace ().
However, what little hopes there might have been of West Brom snapping him up now effectively look over, and it looks as though the Baggies will have to turn their attentions elsewhere.
