Report: ‘Exceptional’ player could now follow Richarlison and Lenglet to Tottenham, deal may be done this week

After a long-running saga which has lasted for weeks, Djed Spence is in advanced talks over a move to Tottenham.

claim that the negotiations for the defender are close to reaching a conclusion, and he is set to leave Middlesbrough.

Spence spent last season on loan from Boro to Nottingham Forest, playing a key part at right wing-back as Steve Cooper’s men were promoted.

He has long been Tottenham’s top target to upgrade their options in that area of the pitch, although progress has been slow over a deal at times.

Spence in advanced talks with Tottenham

The report says that an agreement between the two clubs is getting closer and closer, with Spurs closing in on three players.

The deal could be done by the weekend, with Tottenham wanting Spence to be part of their pre-season plans, which start on Monday.

An initial fee of £15 million looks to have been agreed, with add-ons to come on top of that.

At one point, it looked like Spence was going to be Spurs’ fourth signing of the summer, but Richarlison and Clement Lenglet could well join before he does now.

Spence has been hailed as ‘‘ by former Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate, who of course has turned out for both them and Spurs.

He has huge potential, but of course it will now be up to him to adjust to the demands of the Premier League and Champions League.

Antonio Conte has huge demands, and the wing-back roles are so crucial in his system, and it looks like he is closing on the man he wants on the right of his back five.
