Fulham have also held talks with Marseille over Dieng, but the striker does not want to play second fiddle to Serbian forward Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The forward is completely out of Marseille manager Igor Tudor’s plans, and a move away from the Stade Velodrome looks like the best result for everyone.

Everton offered chance to sign Dieng

Everton’s need for a striker has been well established, with Salomon Rondon the only fit striker currently in the squad.

Anthony Gordon has started both games as Lampard most advanced forward, but had little luck in front of goal so far.

Gordon has also been linked with a move away from Goodison Park, and speculation surrounding his future is unlikely to help his fortunes.

, and Everton are going to need a suitable back-up to the striker once he’s fit again.

Dieng fits this profile well, as a young forward who already has international pedigree.

The Senegalese international scored in their penalty shootout victory against Egypt in the African Cup of Nations final.

Dieng is very efficient with his chances in front of goal and tends to take most of his touches in the box, while also being very strong in the air.

It will be interesting to see if Everton make a bid on Dieng based on Lampard’s personal intervention, but given how seriously the Toffees require a striker, watching clips of the forward will be high on Lampard’s to-do list.
