Report: Everton scouted Ben Brereton Diaz this week

Everton scouted Ben Brereton Diaz on Tuesday as a host of clubs form a queue looking to secure his signature in the coming months, according to a report from the (16/10; page 75).

Brereton Diaz has a raft of admirers as he continues to boast a superb goalscoring record for Blackburn Rovers. He found the back of the net 22 times last season. And he has another seven this term.

Rovers would love to keep the Chile international. However, they are reportedly resigned to losing him with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

He can agree a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs in January. And there is interest from the likes of AC Milan, Real Sociedad and Sevilla.

But Everton are also in the mix. And the (16/10; page 75) reports that the Toffees had Brereton Diaz scouted on Tuesday when Blackburn faced Wigan.

Unfortunately for Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side, they were beaten by the Latics. But 29 goals since the start of last season obviously tells its own story.

Chile international could tick a lot of boxes for Toffees

Everton could certainly do with more quality in the final third. They have only scored eight goals in their opening 10 games in the Premier League.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had his issues with injury over the past few years. And only one player in their entire squad has scored two goals so far this season.

Brereton Diaz has been labelled an ‘‘ talent in the past. And at 23, there is scope for the former Nottingham Forest man to improve further.

His contract situation also opens the door for a potential bargain.

The advantage foreign clubs have over Everton is that they can hold talks with the player directly in January. So it will be interesting to see whether the Toffees look to agree a fee with Blackburn in January before he agree terms elsewhere.
